The companies kontron and XGI technology presented the first version of the standard built in graphic card - UGM 1.0 (Universal graphics module). According to specification, the dimensions of module are accepted equal to 84 x 95 mm, and itself it will not have joints for the connection of display units.
In contrast to the usual graphic card, placed perpendicularly to motherboard , the card UGM are designed for parallel installation. Thus, is obtained flat and compact construction. Even more important for users is the reduction of the expenditures of time for development, and other advantages of the standardized approach, such, as simplicity of modernization and the guaranteed presence of determined by standard functionality. The increasing complexity of the realization of graphic subsystems became stimulus for the development.

To the system card the UGM- modules will be connected with the aid of 220- contact , which also is used for modules COM express/eTXexpress computer-On-Module. On the contacts of this port in the module enter the signals PCI-Express (1, 4, 8 or 16 lines) and video signals. Module can contain up to 512 mb of memory and fulfill function capture of video signal. The output signals of module on the contacts of the same port enter back the motherboard . In present moment the specification UGM 1.0 includes the support Of dual LVDS, Dual DVI and Dual VGA.

The developer of motherboard will be able to solve itself, what signals must be derived on the external port - for example, audio, USB and DVI. Thus, it is possible to simplify the construction of the built in graphic card, to remove the questions, connected with the arrangement of port and to provide the possibility of adding the functions of the protection of content (HDCP).

The voltage of supply to modules are equal to 5 v, TDP - 45 W. It is assumed that this reserve on TDP will make possible to realize even most productive solutions, claimed in the applications, connected with the intensive working of three-dimensional â€“ multimediacenters and gaming consoles.

The specifications of new standard will be opened for the independent developers in the first quarter, and the first UGM- modules of production kontron are expected on the market in first half of 2007.
